In the Netherlands, we have one of the best rail way systems worldwide – even though we love to complain about it, or perhaps because of that.
Over the past few months, the Dutch rail ways were fundamental once more, as they brought so many essential workers to medical centers every day. Yet the absence of regular travellers hit them hard. Together with Wirtz, we captured the sudden stillness.
While filming, we discovered that empty stations are enchantingly nostalgic, but their form only finds true beauty in function.
This little film demonstrates the loss of a station without travellers, and its readiness to embrace them again.
